Eight years after the bridge closure, the Henniker Western Avenue Bridge is now open to vehicular traffic. Saturday morning members of the community gathered for the official ribbon cutting ceremony presented by the Town administrators and the Board of Selectmen.
Traffic signs and pavement markings have been installed and the bridge is almost ready to be opened to all traffic on Saturday, August 5th. Join your friends, neighbors and members of the community to celebrate the opening of the Western Avenue Bridge! Program starts at 11:00 am.
Both roadway approaches to the bridge are now paved and guardrail has been installed. Work will continue into the next few weeks with the installation of gravel shoulders, sidewalk hand rail, traffic and street signs, line stripping and general site cleanup. Bridge is currently anticipated to be opened to traffic on August 5th.
The western approach to the bridge was paved on Monday with the first layer of bituminous pavement. Bridge rail was also installed last week. Work will continue into coming weeks with the installation of the granite curbing at each approach, approach railing and paving the top layer of bituminous pavement.
Work continues this week with installation of drainage structures at the east approach. Local residents should expect minor delays as the road will need to be closed temporarily throughout the week. During the closure there will be a detour route in place.
